Share with us your background and how you got started with Chloe + Isabel…

I am a teacher and a new mom and love fashion.  I have always loved accessories and being able to change up outfits I have (or even simple outfits) with a scarf or jewelry.  Several months ago, I came across a feature on Chloe + Isabel in People magazine that featured the Sculpted Feather Hinged Cuff. I looked up the piece and started exploring the site for other items that interested me. I soon found my shopping cart full of items from everyday delicate pieces to statement pieces full of color. On checkout, the question came up about being interested in becoming a merchandiser. After receiving my order and speaking to a consultant, I was hooked! I love sharing the jewelry and accessories!

What do you love most about the jewelry and company?

I love the versatility in the pieces! If in the title it says “convertible” [the piece] can be worn multiple ways. Almost 75% of the necklaces and earrings are this way, meaning you can get more looks for the same amount of money. It really makes everything more valuable. In addition, everything is money back guaranteed for life and hypoallergenic .

What is your customer like?  What do they wear?

The best part about this jewelry is we appeal to everyone! I don’t have just one type of customer. From high school seniors looking for prom jewelry, to grandmas’s going to church, to even men….we have something to appeal to every age group and every taste.

What are your current favorite products?

I currently love the Limencello line…. there is the wrap, the statement necklace, statement earrings, beach towel, iPhone case, and even a beach hat. All inspired by lemons and Italy.

When did you begin making headpieces and knew this is what you were meant to do?

I have been designing and creating hats and hat fascinators since 2009.  I started out my career in life as an Instructional Systems Designer – creating training programs for engineers at Ford. I suppose the design gene was always there…My background in Instructional Systems Design is helpful in hat making because I understand FORM to FUNCTION to FIT. Not every headpiece will look good on every person, but every person can look good in a headpiece designed for their headshape…That is where I come in.

I began working at Ford Motor Company when I was 19. My manufacturing design background made for an easy transition into hat design; which also requires a strong knowledge of design, shape, and form. As with engineering design, hat designers must be able to assess fit of product (e.g. client’s face and head shape with hat size and function). Any woman can wear a hat or fascinator – It’s about finding the best design to compliment the shape of the face and head size of the wearer.

What do you love most about your job as a designer?

I have been fortunate enough to be have my work showcased in local, national, and international magazines. From local Styleline Magazine to national Solis Magazine – New York and then to KEEL Magazine – International.  This Fall 2016, I will be showcasing three pieces at New York Fashion Week in a Collaboration with designer Mila Pershyna.

I am also proud to announce that my daughter has begun working with me.  Savannah, age 13, began making fascinators with me last year.  She has since begun designing her own line of jeweled hair combs for young women.

I currently have a bridal line and a derby hat line for women. I [plan] to expand my business this year to include jeweled headpieces, a children’s line with my daughter Savannah, couture year round wear, and church hats.

This is my daughter’s first client, Lia.  Savannah designed and created her hair comb for prom.

What is your customer like and what do they wear? What are they interested in?

It’s difficult for me to define this because I feel this career chose me….I love creating pieces that make women feel beautiful. I believe that life is a show and we are meant to dress for it

What my client is like.. My client is someone who enjoys fashion, but most of all…appreciates fashion. My clients are women who want something different – who want to push the boundaries of fashion with couture appeal

What are your current favorite styles for Summer?

I love jeweled pieces for everyday wear. Something in the hair suggests femininity and grace. Traditional lines.

Share with us your background and how you got started with styling…

My love of fashion and style began at 16 when I first started working retail in our local mall.  From then on I began informally styling family and friends, always searching to help them find “the perfect outfit” for their upcoming events.  It wasn’t till I began working with The Styled Life in 2015 that it became apparent there was a need for this service and my passion could also be a business.

When did Perfectly Appropriate start and how has your styling business evolved since?

Perfectly Appropriate was launched in January of 2016 and has been steadily growing ever since! It’s been fascinating to start something from scratch and define what people are looking for in a personal stylist.  Currently, I have a very loyal and steady client base and lots of plans for the future.  My next mission is to get a blog up and running with my website – stay tuned….

What do you love most about your job?

There is nothing more thrilling than knowing I’ve helped someone feel more confident in their wardrobe and genuinely excited about what they are wearing.  Saving people time and money by taking the guesswork out of what to wear is remarkably satisfying.  Not to mention, I love to shop!  Helping select key items to get more mileage out of a wardrobe is a real perk.

What is your ideal client like and what do they wear?  What are they interested in?

My ideal client is anyone who looks in their closet and feels overwhelmed.  I haven’t met a single person who doesn’t have a wonderful wardrobe just waiting for a fresh perspective.  Many times it is the finishing touches that can take you from feeling standard to stylish.  My clients are looking for advice on those finishing touches as well as a quick daily solution for what to wear.

What are your current favorite styles for the season?

Spring and summer styles are my absolute favorite and this season is no exception.  I can not get enough of bold bohemian floral prints and stacked heels.  Lace details are huge right now and I will wear them on anything from jackets to shorts.  Seeing the athleisure presence again this season was wonderful since is a staple in my daily life.

Anything else you’d like to tell us about yourself or styling tips you would like to share?

Style is defined by individual taste and preference.  It can be influenced by trends but is always highly personal.  I love to help people identify what the “Perfectly Appropriate” wardrobe choice is for their unique personality and lifestyle.

Local Fashion Spotlight: The Versatile Warrior

Uncategorized

TVW 1

Share with us your career background and how you got started…

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to co-found The Versatile Warrior with my younger brother, Jamie. Although we’re both attorneys by day, our true passion has been in the men’s fashion industry. Our father was always a very sharp dresser and instilled in us both at an early age an appreciation for dressing well and the message or impression confidently wearing an outfit sends.

They say necessity is the mother of all inventions . . . In our case, the concept behind the Versatile Warrior was born after struggling to find the “perfect” men’s polo shirt, one that looked sharp, was ultra-comfortable, and could be worn both casually or dressed up.

Versatile Warrior-Polo

When did The Versatile Warrior launch and how has your company evolved since?

The business was started in late 2009 but it took us nearly 24 months to go from concept and design to market. While we’ve increased the number and colors of products we now offer (for example, increasing the polo shirt colors from four to nine), the commitment to quality, attention to detail, and our goal of making an inspired lifestyle clothing brand has remained unchanged.

TVW 4

What do you love most about your job?

Aside from the chance to get to run a business with my brother, I truly love the freedom provided in getting to design and bring to market our ideas! Being lawyers, we don’t always have the occasion to use our the “right side” of our brains; The Versatile Warrior has definitely provided us with an outlet for creativity!

What is your customer like and what do they wear?

The Versatile Warrior’s customer is just that –versatile, especially in terms of personality and characteristics. He may be young or slightly older. A father or a bachelor. There are a few details that will remain consistent however- an appreciation for true craftsmanship and a classic style. Our customer’s clothes don’t define, but expound upon, who they are and what they stand for. The clothes they chose are modern, yet tailored- always presenting a polished, well-curated look. The look of someone who’s playful yet punctual. A man that can always be relied upon.

What are your current favorite products?

We’re really excited for our new pastel-colored polo shirts which just were unveiled for this Spring.

Anything else you’d like to tell us about yourself or your company?

We’re strong believers in subtle details. For example, all of our clothing tags for our clothes are embroidered with the Latin phrase “Semper Vincit” which translates to “always conquer.” We’ve adopted this as our company motto and believes it represents the ideals of our brand – that whatever challenges life presents, face them head on with confidence, determination and courage. To us, as well as our company’s fans who put on our clothing, it’s a reminder of what is capable of being accomplished, especially when wearing our clothes.

Share with us your career background and how you got started…

When did Clarkston Makeup Studio open and how has your store evolved since?
Clarkston Makeup Studio opened March 28th 2015. Since opening less than a year ago I have noticed the community has embraced my business and welcomed me with open arms. I have also been able to expand business by offering new services such as group makeup lessons. Since offering this at the studio it has become a huge hit in the community. My clients love that they can spend a night out with their friends learning about makeup together, and I love being able to guide them to trying new things and enhancing their technique. Almost six months into opening the studio I was already becoming busy and needed to hire another artist. I hired Lexi, who brought new things to my business as well. Lexi is a body painter and does henna designs, I am so happy to have these new talents present in my studio.

IMG_0045

What do you love most about your job?

I love what I do, so for me I don’t feel like I’m working. I get excited everyday to see my clients and to help them in any way I can. It’s always hard for me to leave the studio because I am truly doing what I love everyday. I can’t even say what my favorite service to perform is because I need all of them in my life. If I spend all day doing brows then I get so excited for my next makeup application, and vice versa. I am so blessed to have the clients that I do and to have the studio of my dreams.

What is your customer like and what do they wear?

My clients are a variety of ages, genders and skill levels. We have a lot of mothers who are coming to the studio to get their brows done or spending some much needed time on themselves when they want a makeup lesson. We have lots of males who come in to get their brows done. Young girls often come in for brows or to get their makeup done for Prom or Homecoming. We are often seeing our clients wearing a range of clothing from office wear, workout clothes, all the way to formal wedding attire.

What are your current favorite products in store?

We only carry products we love! Picking favorites is hard but we cant get enough of our Soft Taupe brow definer. It’s a felt tip marker for your brows, it creates a very sheer coverage to fill in the shape of the eyebrow easily and naturally. Our other favorite makeup product would have to the be Tinted Moisturizer. It has an SPF of 20 and is a great sheer natural coverage, great for moms on the go who can’t fuss with foundation.

Anything else you would like to tell us?
Clarkston Makeup Studio embraces everyone. We love every face that walks through our doors, whether you have all the makeup in the world or you’ve only ever had lip balm. We believe that everyone is beautiful and that everyone is welcome. The studio is your refuge from daily life, to pamper yourself with a lesson, or to let us pamper you with an eyebrow arch or makeup application. We are always excited to spend time sharing our knowledge and our passion with Clarkston and wherever our clients come to us from.
Thank you so much for sharing with us.  Be sure to check out Clarkston Makeup Studio’s webpage and social media for upcoming events and to book your appointments!

Winter Accessories: Coats

Uncategorized

It is important to bundle up this season, but of course you want to look stylish as well! With these three different styles of coats, you will stay warm and be fashionable. The top left coat is an olive green bomber jacket with black sleeves. This coat is perfect for layering a tank top and sweater underneath.

The bottom left coat is just a throw over poncho. This poncho would be ideal to wear on a warmer winter day. With Michigan’s fluctuating weather conditions, this is always possible. The poncho also has a hood, just in case the temperature decides to randomly drop. It is also easy to layer with this jacket, mostly neutral and dark colors should be worn.

The last coat is one of my favorites, it is a faux fur coat. This coat is perfect when the weather becomes very cold, as you will remain warm and comfortable. This coat can be worn with formal wear or casual everyday clothing. Dress the coat up or dress it down, either way the style will be the main focus!

Winter Accessories: Hats

Uncategorized

It is important to keep your head warm during the winter, since most of our body heat escapes through our extremities. While there are many different types of hats, there are three trendy ones that will be amazing to wear this season!

image1

knit hat outfit

The white knit hat pictured above would go with any casual outfit. You can pair this hat with a large sweater, leggings/jeans, and a pair of your favorite winter boots! This hat is sure to keep your head warm, while you remain stylish as well. Want to keep extra cozy? Pick up a matching white cable knit scarf to help complete your outfit.

beret formal

The beret pictured above in burgundy would match with more of a formal outfit. You could pair this hat with a simple dress or even a blouse and skirt. If you would like to accessorize this outfit even more, try adding a bold pair of statement earrings.

pom hat

Lastly, the pom knitted hat can be worn with whatever style you choose! Dress this hat up by wearing a sweater dress or dress it down by wearing a casual blouse and a pair of dress slacks. Feeling the need to add a bit more bling? Add a large statement necklace to this look to help create a more put together look!

Winter Accessories: Gloves

Uncategorized

In the winter our hands are mostly exposed to the cold, walking outside to go to the store, pump gas in your car, etc can cause our hands to be ‘frozen’. It is important to wear proper gloves to assure comfort and style!

A recently new type of gloves are the touch screen gloves that you can wear and you are still able to use your cellphone. Thinsulate gloves are also widely popular among women, men, and children. These gloves help to keep heat in and pretty much go with any outfit because they are plainly colored. Then we have the mittens, they help keep all your fingers warm by only having a finger hole for the thumb.

The Thinsulate gloves that are shown above in a neutral grey color would go with virtually any outfit, they might be a little bulky for formal wear. For formal wear, gloves that can be worn would be something a little thinner, possible leather insulated gloves.

The wool mittens are sure to keep your fingers/hands warm! Wool is high absorbency and if it is snowing your hands are sure to remain minimally cold. These mittens can be worn with any outfit, just don’t forget they are a bit more restrictive than gloves, so make sure whatever outfit you wear is simple and doesn’t contain many buttons.

The last pair of gloves are my favorite. They are multi-functional, they can be used to keep your hands/fingers warm and you can still text on your phone while wearing these tech-savvy gloves! I also really love the patterns on the gloves, it gives the gloves more of a stylish look on their own.

Winter Accessories: Scarves

Uncategorized

During the cold winter months of Michigan it is important to stay warm, but it is equally important to do it with style. There are many different styles of scarves, just to name a few: Pashmina, knitted and infinity.

The neutral colored Pashmina scarves can be worn in many different styles. It is important to pair the scarf with a neutral colored outfit, but making sure the scarf is the main statement piece of the outfit, nonetheless. If you unfold the scarf is can double as a shawl to keep your upper body warm on those cold wintry nights.

The knitted scarf gives extra warm and comfort, to wear this scarf in a fashionably new way, try pairing it with a collared button-down. This will draw the main focus in on the scarf while also trying out a new look. A simple pair of black slacks will help make the whole outfit come together professionally.

Lastly, the infinity scarf should be worn with a scoop neck t-shirt and paired with a neutral colored pencil skirt and worn with tights. This will ensure you remain stylish while still remaining warm.

By following these simple wardrobe suggestions, you’ll be sure to rock a scarf with any outfit!
