Share with us your career background and how you got started…
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to co-found The Versatile Warrior with my younger brother, Jamie. Although we’re both attorneys by day, our true passion has been in the men’s fashion industry. Our father was always a very sharp dresser and instilled in us both at an early age an appreciation for dressing well and the message or impression confidently wearing an outfit sends.
They say necessity is the mother of all inventions . . . In our case, the concept behind the Versatile Warrior was born after struggling to find the “perfect” men’s polo shirt, one that looked sharp, was ultra-comfortable, and could be worn both casually or dressed up.
When did The Versatile Warrior launch and how has your company evolved since?
The business was started in late 2009 but it took us nearly 24 months to go from concept and design to market. While we’ve increased the number and colors of products we now offer (for example, increasing the polo shirt colors from four to nine), the commitment to quality, attention to detail, and our goal of making an inspired lifestyle clothing brand has remained unchanged.
What do you love most about your job?
Aside from the chance to get to run a business with my brother, I truly love the freedom provided in getting to design and bring to market our ideas! Being lawyers, we don’t always have the occasion to use our the “right side” of our brains; The Versatile Warrior has definitely provided us with an outlet for creativity!
What is your customer like and what do they wear?
The Versatile Warrior’s customer is just that –versatile, especially in terms of personality and characteristics. He may be young or slightly older. A father or a bachelor. There are a few details that will remain consistent however- an appreciation for true craftsmanship and a classic style. Our customer’s clothes don’t define, but expound upon, who they are and what they stand for. The clothes they chose are modern, yet tailored- always presenting a polished, well-curated look. The look of someone who’s playful yet punctual. A man that can always be relied upon.
What are your current favorite products?
We’re really excited for our new pastel-colored polo shirts which just were unveiled for this Spring.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about yourself or your company?
We’re strong believers in subtle details. For example, all of our clothing tags for our clothes are embroidered with the Latin phrase “Semper Vincit” which translates to “always conquer.” We’ve adopted this as our company motto and believes it represents the ideals of our brand – that whatever challenges life presents, face them head on with confidence, determination and courage. To us, as well as our company’s fans who put on our clothing, it’s a reminder of what is capable of being accomplished, especially when wearing our clothes.
